i'm looking to buy a small tractor right now my options are a kubota l3400 kubota l2800 or a john deere 790. i have been priced a l3400 FEL and hydro for 15,800 and a l2800 FEL hydro for 14,600 and a jd 790 FEL for 14,600 and i don't really know a lot about the small tractors so i need all the help i can get. i will be using the tractor for (1)mowing the yard about (2)bush hogging (3)moving dirt, rock and anything thats heavy that gets in my way so what do you guys think would be the best choice. I want duribility and low maintnance, i know the l3400 has more hp but is the 5 hp worth a thousand more dollars since it and the l2800 are the exact same thing. thanks for all your help.

I think any of these machines will be good choices. My best advice would be to arrange a demo and test operate each machine while at the same time taking notes on each dealer with respect to how each strikes you with respect to customer support and potential warranty/technical support down the road. Go with the model that suits you best. If that is a tie; factor in the dealer that you think will support you best. (you should always take this into account anyway) That having been said; I think I would be tempted to go with the L3400 if hydrostatic drive was a must as the hydro can eat up a certain amount of available hp. The Deere 790 is a tough machine to beat if you want a basic, reliable gearshift tractor. I think you won't be disappointed with any of these models. If you are looking to save money on a great machine; don't forget the Kioti line of tractors. Perhaps there is a deal in your area. ....

You mentioned mowing. Do you have a lot of trees to mow around or is it wide open? I have many trees and am glad I switched from a gear shift to hydro. I use mine to mow as well as move dirt, rocks, etc. I have JD 4310.
Try to think through how often you would have to hit the clutch on a gear shift for the work you want to do. Otherwise, the choices you have listed are all good. ....
